Rad Hourani's way

Last night was the livestream of Rad Hourani's Unisex NYFW show. Rad has been very good at implementing the latest commercial strategies in the business; diffusion line, online shop, and now the shop the collection right away. He is one of the designers that hopefully is changing an antiquated system by which clothes are commercialized.

Good excuse

Canadian artist Terence Koh with lady Gaga and the infamous defaced Birkin Purple Diary

I was busy defacing all my designer bags...not really. I was just working on something pretty big for the past 2 weeks, it involves Canada + Fashion. That is my good excuse for not posting for so long... the big reveal will come soon.
I will just say for now that this is Canada's year in fashion. Mark my words.

On the not so latest news:

Already mentioned it, but must say it again Erdem wins the British Fashion Concil/Vogue award: "the biggest sum ever awarded to a fashion designer" in that country. Flower Dressing: Why Erdem is a winner. The Times

Industrial Design - Phillipe Malouin

NextLevel Galerie, Paris

Philippe Malouin

Montreal born, London based Philippe Malouin is immensely talented, super funny, and well I am going to go ahead and say it "very easy on the eye". I met him almost a year ago at a party, got a preview of his humor but did not see his work until much later when I caught it in The New York Times magazine when he was chosen as one of the designers to watch at the prestigious Salone Mobile in Milan last year. Since then Philippe launched his interior architecture firm Post Office with his friend Sacha Leoung, has been working on freelance projects with Tom Dixon , and most recently put together his first solo at NextLevel Galerie in Paris. The reason to feature him other than the obvious? While getting to know him I found out Philippe is one of Rad Hourani's very good friends. The case of two young friends from Montreal on the rise.

Off Calendar kick off - Nicolas Andreas Taralis

Nicolas Andreas Taralis FW 10/11

Paris Fashion Week did not officially start until today but Nicolas Andreas Taralis show kicks off the season by being the first show from the capital of fashion to be on style.com. Great reviews and good music from the runway by my friend the amazing Olivier Bobin, aka FADE.
Most importantly it looks like the Helmut Lang void can now be filled by two Canadian designers; Rad Hourani in New York and Nicolas Andreas Taralis in Paris.

Canadian NYFW 10/11 Preview

allowfullscreen="true" width="400" height="340">

I am a tad late on my preview as New York Fashion Week is well on its way. Blame it on S
nowpocalypse '10 even Paris is getting some of it and while north America thinks 1cm. of snow is normal I can't say enough about the mayhem it causes in the city of lights.
In any case here something on the Canadians in New York for this season.

The above is a print inspired by moss growing on rain forest rocks and trees and the colour story is inspired by Haida art - an inspiration which is more intensely explored in other prints in the collection.
Expect some incredible Canadian collaborations at the show; the world of art and fashion could not collide in a better way. This will be Jeremy's closest collection to home.

Of course Tommy will be posting his photos for style.com but he was also included in the site's preview due to his collaboration with designer Reece Solomon of Reece Hudson.

Let the video speak for itself. Look out for an important Rad story on February 13th.

It is looking like a very exiting season already!

The Canadians in Fashion Now

New York

London

Paris

Here are the young designers of Canadian origin that are in the world of fashion. They do not belong to a school of design but are certainly building their brands internationally around the same time (excluding Lynn and Taralis whom have been around for a while). I would like to know if I am wrong -do not know a lot about Canadian fashion design in the 60s or 70s- but I think this is the first time designers from this country are having a moment in fashion internationally in such large numbers. Canada constantly has a moment with models, but with designers this would be it.
